42 packages of imported cigarettes seized

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, May 28: Sleuths of Deptartment of Legal Metrology and Consumers Affair and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) seized 42 imported packages of cigarettes and cigars from the traders in City today.

Official handout said that special squad of Deptartment of Legal Metrology and CAPD under the supervision of VS Samyal Legal Metrology Executive Magistrate First Class, Manoj Prabhaker Assistant Controller Legal Metrology and Ram Krishan Assistant Director (Enforcement) CAPD raided the trading premises of Chourasia Pan Bhandar Gandhi Nagar, Vinay Jain and Brothers Nanak Nagar, Ashu Traders Kanak Mandi, Trilok Chand and Sons Rehari Colony in connection with possession and sale of imported cigarette packages and cigars without declarations as mandatory under packaged commodities Rules, 1977 implemented in the State of J&K through Standard of Weight and Measures (enforcement) Act, 1397.

Handout further said that a total number of 42 sealed imported packages of cigarettes and cigars were seized on spot by the raiding team from the trading premises of Chourasia Pan Bhandar, Vinay Jain and Brothers, Trilok Chand and Sons and Ashu Traders.

Accordingly the department has initiated legal action under the provisions of J&K Weight and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1997 for not compling the rules.

Samyal appealed to the Traders dealing with imported packages not to sell packages of confectionary, cosmetics without MRP and complete address of the manufacturers and importers.
