KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 3: Abdul Salam Parimoo, a veteran social activist, intellectual and former president of Kashmir Traders Federation passed away here this evening.
He was 91 and survived by his wife Mrs Surraya Parimoo, elder sister of Late Shamim Ahmed Shamim, three sons including Zafar Miraj, editor Kashmir Monitor, two daughters and grand children.
The last rites according to the family sources will be performed tomorrow.
The funeral prayers will be held at Partap Park Residency road Srinagar at 2PM tomorrow and the funeral procession will start from his residence old RC Quarter number 1, Residency road Srinagar at 3PM.
Parimoo was a voracious reader, legendary figure in Kashmir's social and cultural life and keen observer of Kashmir's political scene.
Known for his progressive outlook, analytical mind and sense of history, Parimoo had actively championed the cause of traders and small industrial entrepreneurs of Kashmir.
His death has been widely mourned in social, cultural, trade and political circles in Kashmir.
Kashmir students return after 'Bharat Darshan' KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 3: Forty Kashmiri students who were on a Border Security Force sponsored Bharat Darshan Tour arrived here to a warm welcome.
A BSF spokesman said that ADIG (Ops) P.S.Dhillon welcomed them at Frontier headquarter here.
He said the boys were jubilant at this concluding session and were repeatedly cherishing sweet memories of the tour.
The tour was flagged off from Srinagar on January 12 and the boys arrived her on February 1.
The students were drawn from far flung and remote areas of Kashmir and some of them were orphans.
During their 20 days tour, they met president Dr.
APJ Abdul Kalam and visited different places in South India.
They visited Chennai, Mahabalipuram, Pondichery, Chidambaram, Nagore Dargah, Tanjore, Banglore and Mysore.
In Chennai they embarked in a big cargo ship in the harbor and visited hi-tech park, trade fair, snake part and famous beach resort of Mahabalipuram, the BSF spokesman said.
