Actress Rajeshwari Sachdev gets extortion calls

MUMBAI, June 20 (UNI) Actress, singer and television personality Rajeshwari Sachdev has apparently been receiving extortion calls from an anonymous caller demanding Rs 40 lakh.

Additional Commissioner of Police (North west Region) Parambir Singh today confirmed that her father and Indian People's Theatre Association member Indrejeet Sachdev had lodged a complaint at Versova Police station on June 14.

Police were investigating to identify the caller, he said.

According to complaint, Rajeshwari and her family members parents and husband Varun Bodala - have been receiving calls for the past three months.

Rajeshwari, who won a national award for her performance in the film 'Suraj Ka Satavan Ghoda', became popular as the host of 'Antakshari' on Zee television.

In an interview recently, Police Commissioner A N Roy had claimed that the number of extortion calls had come down in the city and many of the locals making calls in the name of underworld gangsters were being arrested.
