AP Agriculture Minister Reddy violated model code: EC

NEW DELHI, June 23 (UNI) The Election Commission today ruled that Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy had violated the model code of conduct in the recent byelections to the Penukonda Assembly constituency.

The Commission had served a notice on Reddy, "but found his explanation unsatisfactory," the EC said in a press note.

Reddy had canvassed for B Sreeramulu, who was the Congress candidate from the constituency, using a "convoy of more than permissible number of three vehicles," the commission said.

However, the commission did not specify whether any action was proposed to be taken against the Minister for violation of the code, normally adhered to by the contesting parties and candidates more as a convention than as a rule.
