Attempt to attack police post foiled

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 16: Body of a civilian kidnapped by the militants in October last year was recovered from Thilloo nallah in Mahore area of Reasi today while cops foiled an attempt to attack police post Narkote.

Reports said that a decomposed body of an 85 year old man who was kidnapped by the militants in October last year was recovered from Thilloo nallah.

The militants who kidnapped an elderly man informed his family member about the body.

The body was retrieved today from the nallah and was handed over to the family members for last rites.

Police has registered a case in this connection and started investigations.

Police identified the deceased as Swaran Singh, 85, resident of Thilloo in Mahore.

Meanwhile militants fired upon police post Ladda, Narkote during the intervening night of February 14 and 15, 2004.

The fire was effectively retaliated by the cops and the militants fled away taking advantage of darkness and dense forest.

No loss of life or property was reported.

Boy missing KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 16: A 15 year old boy went missing from Krishna Nagar area here.

As per the report, 15 year old boy Sanju Kumar Mehta, son of Jai Narayan Mehta, resident of Hosue number 108, Krishna Nagar Jammu went missing from his locality on February 11, 2004.

He was last seen wearing blue coloured track suit on February 11 at 3 PM.

Sinha's address to the joint session of State Legislature, Chairman Legislative Council Abdul Rashid Dar, on the commencement of 90th Session of the House, tabled obituary reference on the demise of former legislators Peer Hissam-ud-Din, Ram Nath Manhas and Justice Janki Nath Bhat here today.

Paying rich tributes to the late legislators, the Chairman said the House expresses its deep sorrow on the demise of Peer Hissam-ud-Din and recalls his long selfless services to the people he rendered with honesty and dedication.

Dar said the House also expresses grief on the passing away of Ram Nath Manhas and Justice Janki Nath Bhat, former members of Legislative Assembly.

He described the late legislators as humble, honest and distinguished personalities.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Muzaffar Hussain Baig joined Bashir Ahmad Naz, Mtr.

Farida Muneer, Mohammad Yousuf Taing, Lal Mohammad Sabir, Abdul Rehman Tukroo, Prof.

Bhim Singh and Abdul Qayoom in paying tributes to the departed legislators.

They recalled their contributions in the development of the state besides their social services.

The members described the departed legislators as humble, philanthropist and leading political figures.

They expressed sympathies with the bereaved and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed leaders.

Earlier, a copy of Governor's address, delivered to both the houses of legislature, was tabled in the Legislative Council.
