Bid to evade tax

15 quintals of honey seized KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, May 28: Sleuths of Commercial Taxes Check Post Lakhanpur seized a vehicle carrying 15 quintals of honey and imposed penalty upon the offender.

Official reports said that continuing with its efforts for nabbing unscrupulous elements smuggling taxable goods through unauthorized routes crossing river Ravi Bye-Pass Lakhanpur & Nagri-Parole and evading payment of taxes, a team of Commercial Taxes Check Post Lakhanpur headed by Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes Inderjeet Singh, Inspector Sudhir Sharma and Guards intercepted Tata Mobile Jeep bearing registration number PBQ6E-9543 loaded with Honey weighing 1443 Kilograms yesterday.

Reports further said that the consignment owned by Saytam Kumar of Punjab at Sanji Morh was brought back to the Check Post, Jeep loaded with Honey clandestinely exiting the State via Bamyal road through minor route Kot Punnu in connivance with unscrupulous elements and was trying to evade payment of taxes on export of goods.

Honey worth Rs 101010 was seized under section 9(2) of CST Act, 1956 read with section 67(10) of the J&K VAT Act, 2005 and a Penalty & Security amounting to Rs 50506 was imposed on the offender.

The Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes Singh while giving details appreciated the efforts of the re-activated task force and has resolved to continue the patrolling along the Punjab bordering district Kathua to check menaces of smuggling of taxable goods importing and exporting outside the State.
