Bid to evade taxes

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, May: A team of officials under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Check Post, Lakhanpur during a surprise checking of trade vehicles recovered Rs 21 lakhs as penalty from the traders as penalty and security.

As per official handout, the sleuths of Commercial Taxes Check Post, Lakhanpur under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes Inderjeet Singh today conducted a surprise checking of the trade vehicles attached with the registered transport companies of J&K.

During the physical check, it was found that deeply undervalued and undeclared taxable goods were being imparted by these registered transport companies into the state of J&K and the same were checked and seized under sections 67 (5), 67 (10) and 67 (9) of the J&K VAT act 2005.

Penalty and security amounting to Rs 3.55 lakhs and 18 lakhs were imposed upon the dealers totaling Rs 21.55 lakhs.

Later, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxed Inderjeet Singh reiterated his appeal to the traders to refrain from attempting to clandestine/import goods into the state in violation of the J&K VAT Act, 2005 which regulates the flow of trade into the state.
