BJP rejects Hurriet A's sub sovereign state proposal

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 9: State Bharatiya Janata Party has outrightly rejected the suggestion made by the Ansari-led Hurriet faction that Jammu and Kashmir be given the status of sub-sovereign state with Indo-Pak role, calling it condemnable and retrograde.

In a press statement, state president, Dr Nirmal Singh said that his party would not accept any scheme, which is designed to weaken the state's links with new Delhi and force down the throats of the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions, what it called, the religio-political will of Hurriet and similar outfits.

Singh said that BJP would endorse only such proposals that aim at integrating the state with the rest of India, thus, extending the Indian constitution to the state, he added.

Calling Hurriet "Srinagar-based and essentially sectarian," Singh said that the Hurriet leaders had no right to speak on behalf of the people of the state.

The BJP president expressed the view that all mainstream political formations would repudiate the Hurriet roadmap with contempt and demonstrate Pro-India and secular credentials.

He also asserted that the Hurriet assertion went beyond the confines of its January 22 joint statement with the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K.Advani, which, he claimed, suggested that the dialogue process would be broadened so as to include all the regions and the communities of the state.

Asking Hurriet to see the "writing on the wall" Singh reaffirmed that his party would oppose all those who demand the state's separation from India.

Meanwhile, Surekha Chowdhary, president, BJP Mahila Morcha, today called upon the female members to gear up for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Chowdhary was addressing the workers during a working committee meeting held today.

She accused the coalition partners of deceiving the people of Jammu by backtracking on the election promises like delimitation Commission.
