Centre, coalition accused of neglecting remoteareas

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 6: Contesting candidate of National Conference (NC) for Doda-Udhampur parliamentary seat, Khalid Najib Suharwardhy has accused BJP-led NDA government at the center and coalition government in the state of failures and not coming up to the expectations of people of the strife torn state, particularly of far-flung areas.

Addressing workers' meetings at Bhoond, Basholi and Bani in Kathua district today, Suharwardhy fired all salvos at BJP and present dispensation in the state alleging that people of far-flung areas in his constituency were faced with acute shortage of potable water, erratic power supply, dilapidated roads and poor communication links.

Outrightly rejecting tall claims of BJP veteran and minister of state for defence Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, he said, "being a member of Parliament Prof Chaman has not done anything for the people of Doda-Udhampur constituency which is evident from acute scarcity of water for which people have to trek for over five kilometers".

He further said irregular power supply, bad roads and poor communication links have made the lives of the people miserable in Doda-Udhampur constituency, adding ration through BPL scheme and public distribution outlets still elude poor people.

Suharwardhy promised the people that if elected to parliament, he will vociferously raise their problems.

Brij Mohan Sharma, who also accompanied Suharwardhy, in his address, launched a scathing attack on health and medical education minister Lal Singh for his hollow claims of providing medical facilities at the door steps of masses.

He said, "the ground reality is totally different and conditions in health institutions is worst in absence of life saving drugs and doctors besides para-medic staff".

However, he welcomed rehabilitation policy for bringing 'misguided youth' back into mainstream by providing them a sum of Rs 1.50 lakhs as FDR besides a monthly allowance of Rs 20000 but lamented that government has not paid any heed towards unemployed youth.

He said it was the prime task of government to provide allowance at least of Rs 1000 per month to unemployed educated youth till they get employment in government or private firms or till they set up their own income generating ventures.

The NC MLC urged the workers to reach out to the masses with policies and programmes of the party and acquaint them with anti-people, anti-youth and anti-farmers' policies of the coalition government.

Meanwhile, NC leader from Chenani constituency Lal Chand Musafir today visited remote villages Sarar, Jig, Marothi, Kolakh and Bain.

Addressing meetings he criticised coalition government for ignoring villagers all over the state and appealed the people to cast their franchise in favour of party candidate Suharwardhy.

He tried to convince the people that NC was the only party which can provide justice to them in every sphere of life, adding now the people have a golden opportunity to turn the tables against present dispensation.
