Chandhok finishes 17th in Paul Ricard test

PARIS, Aug 26 (UNI): Team India's Karun Chandhok has posted 1.26.959 in the time sheet to finish 17th in the test drive at the Paul Ricard High Tech Track ahead of the global debut of the A1 Grand Prix Championship at Brands Hatch, UK.

A1 Team USA recorded the fastest lap time in the circuit with Scott Speed (1.24.177) leading the time sheet for the second successive day.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, A1 Grand Prix Founder, President and Chairman, Sheikh Maktoum said, "It was sensational seeing all the cars have their first rolling start today with the French car and the USA 'We the People' duelling for the top position diving into the first hairpin bend.

Exactly one month ahead of our opening race at Brands Hatch, A1 Grand Prix is all set to find out which country really is the best on track." Schumacher would welcome Raikkonen at Ferrari BERLIN, Aug 26 (Reuters): World champion Michael Schumacher said today he could not imagine driving for any other team than Ferrari and he would welcome Kimi Raikkonen as a team mate.

"I wouldn't have any problem driving with Kimi in a team with Ferrari in 2007," he was quoted as saying by Bild newspaper.

Ferrari and McLaren yesterday denied a German press report that Finland's Raikkonen would drive for Ferrari in 2007.

Schumacher's contract at Ferrari expires after the 2006 season.

"I'm happy in this team," said Schumacher, 36, who has won seven world titles.

"I don't want to back out now at a point where we're not doing so well.

I can't imagine driving for another team.

"I haven't yet signed for anything for beyond 2006.

But I'll do it as soon as the right moment for me comes.

The decision will be made in due time.

"I don't have any idea when I'll retire," he said.

"But I don't think that I've got a lot of years ahead of me." Bild reported yesterday that Raikkonen, who won last weekend's Turkish Grand Prix for McLaren, had signed an advance contract with Ferrari.

Raikkonen has won five races this season and said he had no intention of leaving McLaren.

Schumacher will be joined at Ferrari by Brazilian Felipe Massa next season after Rubens Barrichello departs to BAR.

Ferrari have suffered a disappointing season in 2005.
