Pre-budget consultations Govt to restructure tax regime licensing system: Baig KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 11 : The J&K government is contemplating measures for restructuring and streamlining of tax regime to make it hassle-free and transparent.
This was announced by the Minister for Finance & Planning, Muzaffar Hussain Baig at the pre-budget meeting with the representatives of industry, trade, hoteliers and retailers here today.
Baig said the suggestions put forth at the meeting would be given due consideration in the budget proposals and a holistic view would be taken to restructure the tax regime and lincensing system to make it more industry-friendly.
To boost the economic growth in the State, the Minister said that the thrust areas identified for development include industry, tourism, horticulture and agriculture.
Spelling out the steps taken in this regard, he said the Government has already announced a comprehensive industrial policy to promote industrial activity in the State.
He said the policy has been appreciated by the people involved in the industrial activity as they see it as a beginning of the new industrial revolution in the State.
Baig said a cabinet sub-committee was constituted by the Government recently for the promotion of tourism.
The committee, he said would overlook the formulation of comprehensive projects for the development of tourism infrastructure in all the three regions of the State.
In this regard, he said thrust is to be laid on identification and development of virgin tourist spots and construction of good road network with adequate boarding and transportation facilities.
Earlier, the representatives of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Federation of Industries, Hoteliers Association and Retailers Association put forth their suggestions regarding the budget proposals.
These included provision of form D for medium and large industry, exemption of fee for industrial establishments, transfer of ownership rights to unit holders, exemption on income tax, enhancement of load to 12 tones from existing nine tones, promotion of sports activity in the State, promotion of infrastructure industry, extension of SRO-246, establishment of PSU units by Government of India, amnesty scheme for toll tax, rationalization of power tariff, promotion of non-conventional energy sources, rationalization of sales tax rates, development of Lakhanpur toll post, revival of sick units and framing of a trade policy.
Economic Advisor to the Government, Dr Haseeb Drabu, Financial Commissioner Finance & Planning, Vijay Bakaya, Principal Secretary Industries, Sasaranaman, Commissioner Sales Tax, Excise Commissioner, Director Accounts and Treasuries, Director Budget and Director Finance were present.
