Crack army rescue team deployed in Kishtwar

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 2: The Army has inducted specialist teams of High Altitude Welfare School Gulmarg into Kishtwar areas to rescue people stranded in Warwan Valley.

The members are expert in relief and rescue work in avalanches affected areas.

The team is led by Maj Vinay Sadashiv and will move into remote areas to provide succor to the villages where relief could not be provided through the civil administration or army due to the areas being inaccessible.

These teams would move to the effected areas after doing aerial survey.

These teams are capable to operate self contained for 48 to 72 hours after establishing a base.

They are equipped with skies, avalanches rods, avalanches detectors and other specialist mountaineering equipment which enables them to detect a person buried even under 30 feet of snow.

Naib Subedar Lal Singh, a member of the team had recently scaled Mount Everest with the army tem.

The areas where these teams should be inducted was decided after Lt General Sudhir Sharma, GOC Nagrota Corp has undertaken an aerial survey of the complete area today.
