Crime branch produces challan against husband KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Aug 22: After completion of investigations in an alleged dowry death case, Crime branch claimed to have produced challan against the husband of the victim in the court.
Official handout issued by the department said that on June 17, 2007 at 2300 hours Heera Lal, son of Mool Raj Mahajan of Mohalla Partap Garh Jammu lodged a written complaint with Police Post Hari Market Jammu stated therein that her daughter Neha Grover was married to Raj Kumar Grover alias Banti, son of Nand Kishore Grover of New Kaleeth Mohalla Jammu about eighteen months ago.
Soon after the marriage Raj Kumar (Son-in-Law of the complainant) and his family started harassing his daughter and demanding dowry on one pretext or the other.
The demand of dowry was brought to the notice of the complainant and his other family members by the Neha.
In order to save the married life of his daughter he fulfilled the demands of her husband by giving them financial help, even then they again demanded dowry and cash assistance on one pretext or other.
The complainant, in his complaint said that he again helped them to the best of his capacity but with the passing of every day the demands of Grover family became vulnerable and they started torturing her mentally as well as physically.
On June 17, 2007 the applicant and his family members planned to go to Bagh-e-Bahu for a picnic and accordingly informed Neha to accompany them.
At 10 AM they received a telephonic message from Neha that her in-laws have not allowed her to accompany them.
At 11.45 AM Raj Kumar Grover husband of Neha informed the complainant on telephone that Neha's condition has deteriorated and she has been shifted to GMC Jammu for treatment.
They rushed to the GMC Jammu and were shocked to see blood oozing from the nose and mouth of Neha and later at around 8.30 PM she succumbed to his injuries in the ICU of the GMC hospital.
The applicant alleged that husband of the deceased and his family members have killed her daughter Neha either by strangulation or by giving her poison.
On the receipt of above complaint, handout said a case FIR number 55 of 2007 was registered in Police Station City Jammu.
Soon after the registration of the instance case the investigation was set into motion by In-charge Police Post Hari Market.
The investigation of the instant case was later transferred to Crime Branch.
Crime Branch sleuths took-up the investigation of the case and during the course of investigation the statement of parents of the deceased (Neha) were recorded.
Further investigating agency came to know that the deceased was being regularly tortured by her in-laws for bringing inadequate dowry.
The husband of the deceased used to demand cash and other dowry items.
The evidence brought on record revealed that the deceased lady was harassed and tortured regularly by her husband, which forces her to hang herself and commit suicide.
On the basis of circumstantial evidence, statements of prosecution witnesses, postmortem report and examination of other concerned the offence under section 306, 498-A RPC has been proved against the husband of the deceased Raj Kumar of New Kaleeth Nagar Jammu.
Crime Branch closed the investigation of the case as challan against the accused has been produced before the competent Court of jurisdiction for judicial determination.
