PUDUCHERRY, Dec 26 (Agencies): The formation of a third political front to contest the next Lok Sabha elections was gaining momentum in different states and there was every need for such a front in the Union Territory of Puducherry also, CPI-M Tamil Nadu unit Secretary N Varadarajan said.
Parties opposed to Congress and BJP were now coming together to "save" the country`s economy and its secularism, he told a public meeting organised by the party to mark the 55th Liberation Day of Puducherry and also the centenary of its leader P.Ramamoorthy here last night.
Referring to the tie-up between the AIADMK and the CPI-M, he claimed that formation of the third front was becoming a reality and was taking place in bigger states, he .
Puducherry should also strengthen formation of the third front, he added.
He said that the "weak" economic policies of the UPA government at the Centre were chiefly responsible for the proliferation of the communal forces.
Accusing the UPA of virtually surrendering before the US by signing the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal, he also charged the Congress with having failed the people in spite of being in power for a big chunk of period since independence.
He said the attack on the minorities and more particularly the Christians in Orissa, Karnataka and in a few other pockets in the country was now sneaking into Tamil Nadu also.
He demanded a quota of three per cent for `Arundathiyar` in Puducherry also as had been made in Tamil Nadu.
Party's Tamil Nadu unit executive committee member T Murugan asked the Vaithilingam Ministry here to quit in view of "break down" of law and order as could be seen from the mass agitation by policemen in a court complex on December 19.
