Former MP CM joins BJP

NEW DELHI, Feb 17 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Govind Narain Singh today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressing full confidence in the leadership of prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Singh, who was admitted to the party at a function at BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu's residence where deputy prime minister L K Advani was also present, headed the Samyukta Vidhyak Dal government in 1967 in the state in which the Bharatiya Jana Sangh was also a partner.

Welcoming him into the party's fold, Naidu said that a senior Congressman like Singh joining the BJP was a clear signal that the wave was in favour of the BJP.

Advani said that Singh by joining the BJP family, could serve the nation as a 'prabhari'.

He said that this time there was a 'positive wave' in favour of the party as was visible in 1977, saying in all other occasions the wave used to be against the ruling party.
