SITAMARHI, Jun 26 (Agencies): Four children were killed and over a dozen others injured, three seriously, when their school bus overturned in the wee hours in Bihar's Sitamarhi district today.
The tragedy occurred around 3 am when students of Government Middle School at Madhopur in the the district were returning from a trip to Patna, District Magistrate Vijay Kumar told PTI.
The driver and cleaner of the bus had consumed liquor at a roadside dhaba near Runnisaidpur where the children had their dinner.
The driver, who was heavily drunk, then asked the cleaner to drive.
The inebriated cleaner lost control over the vehicle when it reached police lines and the bus overturned.
While four children died on the spot, over a dozen others were injured.
Three seriously injured children have been rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital, Kumar said, adding the driver and cleaner were absconding.
