Patna, Sep 26 (NNN) : Curfew was imposed in Bihars Muzzafarpur town after four people were killed in police firing on a mob of protestors demonstrating against the abduction and killing of a five-year-old boy.
Tension had been building up in the town since Tuesday night when the body of Gautam, son of a Punjab National Bank employee, was recovered.
An angry crowd took to the streets in the night itself to protest against the killing of the boy, who was kidnapped while on his way to the school last week.
Police said the abductors, however, spared the boys two sisters.
On Wednesday, the protest turned violent and an irate mob set a government vehicle on fire.
Police tried to control the situation but failed and then resorted to firing, killing four persons.
As tension prevailed in the town following the incident, authorities imposed curfew.
Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Sushil Kumar Modi, has demanded the resignation of the superintendent of police.
