Freedom struggle can now fetch fellowships

BHOPAL, Aug 15 (Agencies): The Madhya Pradesh government will grant special fellowships for documenting the contribution of the state in India's freedom struggle.

Fifty fellowships of Rs.50,000 each and a national fellowship of Rs.500,000 will be instituted to record the role of the state in the freedom struggle, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in his Independence Day speech Wednesday.

A special pictorial book on the martyrs and freedom fighters of 1857 would be brought out as part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the first war of independence, he said.

Chauhan, who unfurled the national flag and took salute of a grand parade at the Motilal Nehru stadium here, reiterated his commitment to rapid development of the state.

The chief minister dwelt on the efforts being made towards women empowerment, industrial and rural development, expansion of educational and health facilities besides steps taken for the betterment of farmers and others.
