India, Pak urged to make dialogue a public interest Yasir Saeed SRINAGAR, Apr 2: Jean Ellis, member European parliament and chairman Kashmir group in European parliament today urged both Indian and Pakistani governments to make the ongoing dialogue process a public interest to address the problems being facing by the people of Kashmir.
Speaking on the second day of the "global discourse on Kashmir" in the European parliament, he said this would ultimately help to resolve the Kashmir issue.
Prominent people from different walks of life here communicated through video conferencing, organised by the JKLF (Raj Bagh), with the participants of the discourse at Brussels.
Jean also said that both the countries should inform their public, the developments happening through the dialogue process.
He said that India and Pakistan should learn from the conflict resolution of Northern Irelands and Kosovo.
And similar kind of efforts should be made to resolve the decades long Kashmir conflict.
Replying to a question by Prof G.M.Baba a prominent political analyst of the valley, the chairman of the Kashmir group in European parliament said that there is no alternative for both the countries to make the ongoing peace process a sustainable, durable and result oriented.
But to make it result oriented, the participation of the Kashmiris is more important.
ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿ He maintained that the political leadership of Pakistan, India and Kashmir has to work more effectively on new approaches to bring about a lasting solution of Kashmir issue.
He said that human rights should be respected till Kashmir issue is resolved.
A member of European parliament also replied to a question by the High Court Bar Association president (HCBA) president Nazir Ahmad Ronga about the resolution passed by the European parliament last year in which the European Union has asked both India and Pakistan to resolve the conflict.
The European member said that European Union is keen to resolve the conflict and they would continue to work in this direction.
ÿÿÿÿÿ Commenting on another query raised by Saif-u-Din Shangloo, a social activist, about the Tibetain crisis, Jean said that the popular movements cannot be crushed through military means and the conflicts can only be resolved through political means.
ÿÿÿ ÿÿÿ JKLF (Raj Bagh) patron, Abdul Majid Tramboo, during the conference expressed dissatisfaction over the human right situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He appealed the European Union to make an influence to resolve the vexed Kashmir issue.ÿÿÿÿÿ The video conferencing was attended by people from various walks of life, including, HCBA president Nazir Ahmad Ranga, G.M Baba, Safi-ul-Din Shangloo, Abdul Majid Wani, father of late JKLF commander, Ishfaq Majid Wani, Mohammad Saleem (Nanaji) secretary general JKLF (Raj Bagh), Farooq Ahmad Dar, chief organizer, Tahir Ahmad Mir, senior leader JKLF, Rashid Khursheed chief spokesman, Wajahat Qurishi, publicity secretary and Shafat Jan deputy chief organizer.
Mehbooba pays obeisance at Iqbal's mausoleum LAHORE (Pakistan), Apr 2 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Ms Mehbooba Mufti today visited the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal at Hazuri Bagh here to pay homage to the great poet, thinker and philosopher.
The PDP President offered Fateah at the mausoleum located outside the grand Badshahi Masjid.
Allama Iqbal had a special connection with Kashmir as, according to historians, his ancestors were from village Kapran on Shopian-Kulgam road, who had migrated to Sialkote, where Iqbal was born.
Iqbal always boasted of being a Kashmiri and used to introduce himself in these words: 'The seeds of this flower are from the flower-gardens of Kashmir".
Mehbooba after paying obeisance at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal also visited the famous Badshahi Masjid.
