Govt joinery mill officials booked for fraud

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 23: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) claimed to have booked officials of Joinery Mill Bari Brahmana under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act for misappropriation of funds after preparation of fake adjustment bills and vouchers.

Official reports said that SVO has registered a case under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against Sanjay Handoo-Manager, Ashok Gupta- Assistant Manager, Baldev Raj-Supervisor, BR Atri-Supervisor and other officials of the Government Joinery Mill, Bari Brahmana, Jammu for misappropriation of fund advanced and preparation of fake adjustment bills and vouchers.

On receipt of information, reports said, a joint surprise check was conducted into the allegation of adjusting fake vouchers against temporary advance paid to the employees of Government Joinery Mill Bari Brahmana Jammu during the years 2005-06 and 2006-07.

The scrutiny of records had revealed that then Manager Government Joinery Mill, Bari Brahmana, Jammu has released temporary advance of Rs 2348911 to Ashok Gupta-Assistant Manager, Baldev Raj-Supervisor, B R Atri-Supervisor and other officials of the Joinery Mill to meet the expenditure on execution of works and purchases.

Ashok Gupta, Baldev Raj and B.R Atri were found to have dishonestly and fraudulently prepared adjustment vouchers and bills worth Rs 448264 and submitted for adjustment without executing any work or making purchase of any material or incurring expenditure on refreshments as claimed in the bills.

The then Manager Government Joinery Mill Bari Brahmana Jammu Sanjay Handoo as part of a criminal conspiracy was found to have adjusted vouchers and bills worth Rs 100656 in the year 2006-07 thereby putting the exchequer to loss and knowingly allowed misappropriation of this amount.

During the course of joint surprise check the SVO officials have traced more fake vouchers prepared by the accused officials, which however, could not be adjusted by them due to the timely action of the SVO.

A case FIR number 11 of 2008 was registered at Police Station Vigilance Organization (SVO) Jammu and investigation taken up, reports maintained.

Car stolen KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 23: A Maruti car has reportedly been stolen from Panjbakhter Road under the jurisdiction of Police Post Residency Road.

Police reports said that one Maruti car bearing registration number 3429-JK02L belonging to Romesh Luthra, son of Om Parkash of Panjbakhter Road Jammu has reportedly been stolen from Panjbakhter Road Jammu.

Police have taken cognizance and all the nakas have been alerted.

Girl missing KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 23: A girl has reportedly been missing since April 21, 2008 from her residence under the jurisdiction of Police Post Phalain Mandal.

Police reports said that a girl identified as Fatima Bibi, daughter of Bashir Ahmed of Gosian Chak under the jurisdiction of Police Post Phalain Mandal has reportedly been missing since April 21, 2008 from her residence.

Police claimed to have been looking sharply for the missing girl.
