Govt orders probe into patient's death

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, May 14: State government has constituted a two member enquiry committee to inquire into the alleged negligence in the conduct of the surgery which led to the death of a patient at Government Hospital in Sarwal.

The surgery had allegedly been conducted by a B-grade specialist in Surgery Dr.Raj Reshi who has been placed under suspension and attached with the office of the Director Health Services at Jammu.

Headed by HOD (Surgery) Dr.

Rakesh Saraf, the two member enquiry committee includes Incharge Professor in the department of surgery Dr.R.K.Chrangoo and Deputy Director Health Services Dr.T.R.Gupta.

The enquiry committee has been asked to submit its report to the government within 20 days.

The decision has come in the wake of the protests by the family members and relatives of the deceased Rajesh Gupta (33 years) son of Vijay Gupta, a resident of Hari Singh Nagar in Sarwal who passed away this morning at GMC.

The parents of the deceased were demanding action against the negligent doctor.

The protestors gathered at the Sarwal Chowk and shouted slogans against the administration of Government hospital at Sarwal.

They were accusing the doctor of negligence in carrying out his professional obligations honestly.

They blocked the Sarwal Chowk for around one hour.

As per the police reports, Rajesh Gupta was operated upon by Dr.Raj Reshi on May 12 at Government Hospital Sarwal.

They add that parents of deceased have alleged that immediately after undergoing the laproscopic surgery which was conducted by Dr.Raj Reshi, Gupta started bleeding profusely and his condition started deteriorating.

Dr.Raj Reshi referred the patient to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu where he died this morning.

Police has lodged an FIR under section 304-A at Police Post Sarwal against the doctor and started the investigations.
