KOLKATA, Feb 04 (UNI) Army chief general N C Vij today described the non-lapseable defence modernisation fund of Rs 25,000 crore and hike in the outlay from Rs 60,300 crore to Rs 66,000 crore, as announced by finance minister Jaswant Singh in Parliament yesterday, "as a very positive sign." "The increase in defence outlay shows that money will not be a constraint for purchase of weapons.
Modernisation is the need of the hour for the three services.
At least 30 per cent of the weapon system is contemporary so there is always requirement for funds," he said.
