Hike in petrol price, an anti-people decision: BJP

CHENNAI, Jun 20 (UNI) Former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu today flayed the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for effecting a hike in the prices of petrol and diesel and described it as an "Anti-people decision".

Stating that the hike announced by the Union Cabinet had exposed the "anti-poor" face of the UPA, Venkaiah Naidu told UNI here that the UPA and the Left parties had betrayed the people.

He said the BJP would vehemently oppose the hike and the party would soon launch a nation-wide protest to condemn the hike and demand its withdrawal.

"The anti-poor face of the UPA is exposed as the hike will severely affect the farmers and the poorer sections of the people", Naidu said adding that the farmers, who were already suffering from natural calamities like drought, power shortage and lack of remunerative prices, would be the worst affected.

The hike would also result in the increase of transportation charges and there would be a cascading effect on prices of essential commodities.
