CHENNAI, Jan 5 (UNI): Rookie pacer Sudeep Tyagi received his maiden Test call-up while struggling speedster Ishant Sharma was also included in the 16-member Indian team for the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
The selectors, who met here today, also included Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthick as the reserve wicket-keeper.
The team was more or less the same that played against Sri Lanka at home, except for the axing of Subramanium Badrinath.
The selectors reposed faith in Ishant and gave him another chance to prove his mettle in the longer version of the game despite his none-too-impressive show in the ODIs and the T-20s.
In a brief interaction with the media after the selection committee meeting, Srinivasan said the BCCI was going through the process with regard to the Delhi Test Wicket fiasco and would be sending a report to the ICC.
Chairman of the Selection Committee and Former India Captain K Srikkanth rated Team India's batting as the best in the world.
"There are no surprises in the selection of this team.
In fact, we didn't have to spend too much time on team selection as we got the best in the home series (against Sri Lanka).
"We have a balanced team and I can confidently say that the Indian Team has the best batting line-up in the world of cricket today.
"I am very confident that this team will do very well," Srikkanth said.
The team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, S Sreesanth, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma, Murali Vijay, Dinesh Karthik, Sudeep Tyagi.
