J&K to consider reduction in sales tax on petroleum products

SRINAGAR, June 7 (Agencies): Jammu and Kashmir on Friday said it would look into the possibility of cutting the Sales Taxes on petroleum products following the recent hike in their prices.

"We will look to what extent we can go in reducing the sales taxes on petroleum products.

We are a poor state and most of the revenues are generated from sales tax," Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here.

Azad was responding to a query about Congress President Sonia Gandhi's reported missive to congress ruled state chief ministers to cut the sales tax on petroleum products for providing relief to the consumers.
