KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Expressing concern over the non-inclusion of artistic activities of Jammu and Ladakh regions in J&K Bank calendar, the Deputy Chairman of state Arvinder Singh Micky Legislative Council Arvinder Singh today termed it as "discrimination" against Jammu and Ladakh regions.
Drawing the attention of government towards calendar released by J&K Bank during Zero Hour in the Upper House, Micky alleged that this year calendar issued by J&K Bank did not have any artistic activities from Jammu and Ladakh regions and it was full of various activities from Kashmir region only.
He sought the inclusion of artistic activities of all the regions into it.
Besides this, he pointed out that J&K Bank has appointed over 800 executives but only over 200 candidates from Jammu and Ladakh regions got selected while over 600 candidates were appointed from Kashmir region.
He further pointed out that before conducting the interview, the bank had short listed 1456 candidates and the list was available on internet but the list of over 800 selected candidates was not available on internet.
He urged the government to take serious note of it and suitable action in this regard.
Other members also raised the issues of public importance during Zero Hour.
Mohammad Sharief Niaz and Niazam-ud-Din Bhat drew the attention of government towards inadequate medicos and para-medicos staff in the health institutions of Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda districts and hospitals of valley especially of Bandipora district.
Nizam-ud-Din Bhat also sought explanation from the health administration for misusing of funds and ambulances allotted to the health institutions in the area.
Ashok Sharma demanded early start of construction work on projects under Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) sanctioned in Rajouri district.
He also demanded more projects under the agency in the district, whereas Mr.
Lal Mohammad Sabir demanded early completion of roads under NABARD in his area.
Nassurullah demanded lifting of stranded passengers from Jammu to Kargil and Mr R.
Chib sought reply from the concerned department regarding the issues raised in the House during Zero Hour.
Farida Mir drew the attention of government towards commercial construction in residential areas.
PNB introduces banking to daily wagers KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Punjab National Bank (PNB) organized a function today at Labour Sheds in Chenab Textile Mills, Kathua.
The Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), O.P.Aggarwal was the Chief Guest while Additional DC Kathua was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
About 2000 labourers drawn from all corners of the district participated in this function, the first of its kind in the state.
At this function, PNB linked 1500 families of poor labourers and daily wagers to banking system through Financial Inclusion drive in Kathua district.
Speaking on the occasion, Regional Director, RBI, O.P.Aggarwal appreciated the initiative of PNB to go in for large scale Financial Inclusion in Kathua district.
In this regard, he advised other banks also to emulate PNB and initiate intensive financial inclusion campaigns .
While addressing the gathering, Zonal Manager, PNB, Vivek Arya said that by initiating this Financial Inclusion campaign assured that Branches of Punjab National Bank will saturate their service during 2008-09 and said that each family will be brought to banking fold by opening savings bank accounts with nominal or zero balance with add on facility of affordable credit support to gainful ventures.
Mega Adalats to mark Lok adalat Week KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir State Services Authority has declared the week commencing 4th of February 2008 as "Lok Adalat Week".
During this week a Mega Lok Adalat shall be held on 9th of February 2008 at High Court Complex Jammu.
The Chairmen of all the District Legal Services Authorities shall also organize special Lok Adalats within their respective jurisdictions to mark the "Lok Adalat Week".
JUTA felicitates Prof Mattoo KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU Jan 28: Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof.
Amitabh Mattoo was felicitated by Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) in connection with receiving prestigious national award Padam Shree, at an impressive function held at University campus today.
Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak presided over the function.
The function was among others attended by President JUTA Prof.
Sharma, Registrar Prof.
Ajeet Angral, Dr.
Tara and various academicians and scholars of the State.
Congratulating Prof.
Mattoo, Charak said that under his stewardship the University of Jammu has emerged as a centre of academic and extra-curricular excellence.
He said the University under his patronage has witnessed a radical transformation despite being located in tension-ridden state.
He said Prof Mattoo has also played a key role in the peace process between India and Pakistan and has been elected member of the prestigious governing council of the Noble peace prize winning NGO, Pugwash.
Charak said that in infrastructure, the University can today compete with the best institutions of higher education, nationally and internationally.
Jammu University is the first public university in India to be certified ISO-9001:2000 in terms of the quality of its management systems.
In a record period of a little over two years, the University has built the Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, which includes two auditoriums, a TV studio, a museum and an art gallery which showcase the pluralistic heritage of the state.
No other University in the country has such a state-of-the-art convention complex, he added.
Lok Adalat Week from Feb 4 KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (J&KSLSA), Jammu is observing Lok Adalat Week from February 4th, 2008.
According to Executive Chairman J&KSLSA, the Chairmen of all District Legal Services Authorities have been asked to organize special Lok Adalats within their respective jurisdictions during the Lok Adalat Week.
The concluding function and Mega Lok Adalat shall be held on 9th of February 2008 at High Court Complex, Jammu.

Orientation camp on Renewable Energy held KT NEWS SERVICE UDHAMPUR, Jan 28: Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP), Science and Technology Department organized an orientation camp for District officials of various departments, NGOs and Social activists in the Conference Hall of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, today.

25000 for injured Photo-Journalist KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Hirdesh Kumar Singh alongwith Joint Director Information, S.K Sharma visited B.N Hospital here to enquire about the well being of one Photo-Journalist, Ajay Singh who was injured in a road accident on the eve of Republic Day.
Singh released Rs.
25,000 in favour of the injured following government assurance of providing financial support for his treatment.
Ajay, who has undergone neuro-surgery in the hospital yesterday, is recuperating.
During the visit, the DC asked the hospital management to provide best available treatment to the injured and monitor his condition constantly.

NC meet in Jammu KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: District Committee J&K National Conference (NC) urban under the chairmanship of district president Chander Mohan Sharma organized a workers meeting of ward number 33 and 39 Shiv Nagar, Top Sherkhania Jammu today.
Addressing the meeting Sharma called upon the party workers to be united and prepare themselves for the coming assembly elections, which could be announced any time.
He said that it is time that party workers should go round in their respective areas and take programme and policies of the party at every door step.
He said that people of the state have a bitter experience of the present coalition rule.

Plus-Two lecturers forum seeks regularisation KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: All J&K Plus Two Lecturers Forum has decided to intensify its efforts for immediate regularization of principals and lecturers in the School Education Department.
The Central house of representatives which met here under the chairmanship of H D Qureshi, the state chief of Forum expressed serious concern over the delay in regularization of incharge principals and lecturers despite completion of all the records and assurances from the authorities.
Speaking on the occasion, Qureshi said that Forum will further intensify its efforts to achieve the goal and removal of pay anomalies.
He expressed his surprise that the schools are running without lecturers when the career of students is at stake that also indicates the non serious approach of authorities who have failed in appointing the lecturers.

Workers meet in Gangyal KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 28: Central Board of workers Education Government of India organized a two-days special programme for labour welfare and development at Gangyal with the association of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS).
Large number of workers engaged in different industries of Gangyal area took part in the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Harbans Choudhary state general secretary BMS.
