Kashmiri Cong leaders back Soz

Syed Yasir SRINAGAR, July 15: Heading towards possible division within state Congress, Kashmir unit of state Congress today stood in support of PCC president and former union water resource minister Prof Safi-u-Din Soz and suggested him not to take any decision in hurry which would benefit his critics.

Today when Congress leaders assembled at a function organised by the Bakshi memorial committee, on the 37th death anniversary of late prime minister of the state, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, it turned to be a platform for counter argument after a senior Congress leader without naming Prof Soz that said some Congress leaders are in politics by chance and without having any public support.

All the Congress leaders who addressed the function extended their support to Prof Soz.

Senior Congress leaders and former minister Ghulam Rasool Kar suggested PCC president not to take any decision in hurry, which would benefit those who are deliberately passing these remarks for their personal interests.

He turned towards Prof Soz, Soz sahib, ups and downs are part and parcel of the politics.

Maintain a brave heart, we are with you and those leaders would be defeated who are passing such statements, without knowing the ground situation, he said.

The senior Congress leader, while referring his previous decision, when he unsuccessfully contested the last year assembly election as independent candidate from Sopore, said, The party disappointed me and I disappointed the party, but my sincere advice for you is to maintain patience and all the decks would be cleared with the support of Congress leaders and workers.

Kar said that just for the sake of ministerial berth, such statements are being made which are only benefiting some individuals and are not benefiting the Congress party at large.

I do not want to create controversy for Prof Soz, but we are committed to support you, he said.

Another senior leader of the Congress party, Mohammad Sultan Hundoo said that those leaders who are pointing fingers on the personality of the PCC president must remember that United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government came into existence with the vote of Prof Soz when he used his vote against BJP.

Even though, PCC president was present at the function, but he maintained silence over the issue.

However, his facial ex-pressions were communicating that he is disappointed with the statement being made by his colleagues.

When PCC president addressing the function, everyone present at the hall was anxiously waiting he would say some thing about the issue but he maintained silence about it.

The impression of large number of Congress leaders and workers present at the function was communicating enough that it would not be so easy for the Congress high command to replace Prof Soz.

Prof Soz and other congress leaders termed the late Bakhshi as great human being and well wisher of the downtrodden sections of the society.

They also said that massive developmental works were held during Bakshi period and people are still remembering the period as a golden era.

While paying tributes to the late leader, Prof Bhim Singh, said that he interacted with Bakshi Sahib when he was a student leader.

He said that during his interaction with him, he was much impressed by his helping nature.

The greatest tribute to the late leaders is to follow his guidelines.

Bakshi memorial awards were also distributed among various sections of the society who had done outstanding work in different fields.

The awards were given to prominent writer Dr Fida Hussain, renowned doctor, Dr Ellaqaband, secretary cultural academy, Zaffar Ahmad Manhas, students and sports personalities.
