MUMBAI, Aug 15 (Agencies): Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh launched two ambitious schemes on Independence Day Wednesday aimed at providing medical services to rural areas and making villages dispute free.
The 'Mahatma Gandhi Tanta Mukta Gaon' aims at rewarding villages that resolve disputes locally without seeking help from the district administration or courts.
'This scheme is like the earlier rural cleanliness campaign initiated by the government...
it will also turn out to be a trend setter for the rest of the country,' Deshmukh said in his Independence Day speech after hoisting the national flag at the state secretariat.
Deshmukh said the second scheme launched by the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) government was called 'Doctor Tuchya Dari' and it aims at providing timely medical services to rural areas.
'The scheme has been launched by the state public health department.
Dedicated doctors will fan out to rural areas to provide health services at villagers' doorsteps,' he explained.
