GANDHINAGAR, Mar 25 (UNI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, whose visit to the UK was cancelled last night, remained in his official residence here today to take "rest" even as BJP dissidents appeared to be bracing for a show of strength on March 27 in a bid to dislodge him.
Modi met only his trusted lieutenants at his residence sources said.
A three-day holiday began with Good Friday today.
Tomorrow would be a public holiday on account of Holi, followed by Sunday.
Modi was denied a diplomatic visa by the United States last week and even his existing ten-year tourist visa from 1998 was revoked.
The Chief Minister, however, addressed a meeting of hoteliers in the US through direct webcast using teleconferencing facility.
Modi also had to cancel his UK visit from March 25 to 28.
The authorities in UK had declared his visit as a 'private' one.
Human rights activists and NGOs were planning to stage protest demonstrations in London where he was scheduled to reach today.
Meanwhile, BJP President L K Advani is scheduled to unveil a statue of Haren Pandya at Nehru Park here on Sunday.
This is being seen by dissidents as an opportunity to step up pressure on the party high command to remove Modi.
The late Pandya, whose father Vitthalbhai has been accusing Modi of being "responsible" for the murder, was considered the bete noire of the Chief Minister till he was gunned down exactly three years ago.
