KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, June 30: been registered against CRPF jawan who had reportedly fired without any provocation at Khanpora, Baramulla this evening as a result of which one person died.
According to the police spokesman, the CRPF authorities have been asked to handover the CRPF jawan to Baramulla police against whom murder case has been registered for arrest and investigation.
He further informed that it has been decided to replace CRPF deployments in Baramulla with J&K Armed Police immediately.
It has also been decided to take cognizance against the personnel of the deployments involved in the firing incident at Khanpora Baramulla in which one person died.
IT sleuths raid businessman's residential, business premises Arun Gupta JAMMU, June 30: A week after Income Tax sleuths surveyed premises of contractors, businessmen and hoteliers at Katra, IT teams from Jammu and Punjab today conducted simultaneous 'surveys' and 'searches' of one residential and seven business premises of a prominent businessman, in Jammu and Udhampur districts.
Reliable sources said that the business premises surveyed by the IT teams included five flour mills at Jammu and Udhampur districts, a restaurant and a construction company office at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, besides the residential premises of the contractor businessman, also located at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Sources informed that based on specific information about the concealment of huge tax by a prominent businessman Kasturi Lal Mahajan, a resident of Gandhi Nagar (near Green Field School), Income Tax sleuths from Ludhiana and Amritsar (Punjab) and Jammu carried simultaneous 'surveys' at his flour mills in Gangyal, Sarore and Battal Ballian, Udhampur.
Besides, the residential premises at Gandhi Nagar, belonging to the said contractor, was also searched.
"The flour mills of Kasturi Lal Mahajan were surveyed under section 133-A of IT Act while the searches at his residence were conducted under section 131-A of IT Act," sources stated, adding that the survey started at 7.30 AM and it continued till late tonight.
The survey would be completed by tomorrow morning.
It was learnt that the IT sleuths conducted surveys at Bhagwati Flour Mill and National Flour Mill at Gangyal, RC Rice Mill Sarore, Jammu, RC Flour Mill and Trikuta Flour Mill, Udhampur besides Jammu Lounge Restaurant opposite Government Women College Gandhi Nagar and the Office of Mahajan Construction Company, Gandhi Nagar.
"Following inputs of unaccounted business transactions by Kasturi Lal Mahajan, surveys and searches were conducted at eight premises of the said businessman.
Survey was carried out to verify as whether the transactions shown in the books were correct or the contractor concealed the details to avoid payment of tax," sources maintained.
The IT authorities had gone through the reports of State Vigilance Organization (SVO) Jammu which showed that the said businessman was involved in embezzlement of the Below Poverty Line (BPL) quota of ration.
The FCI ration issued to the Flour Mills owned by Mahajan through Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) department was allegedly pushed into the market for open sale to earn huge profits.
The SVO had unearthed several ration scandals involving the employees of the Mills owned by the said contractor and huge seizures were made in this connection, in the recent months.
"Focussing upon the investigations carried by the SVO, a complete assessment was carried out by the IT authorities.
Later, it came into the notice of IT authorities that Kasturi Lal Mahajan had stepped into real estate business and had purchased several plots in the city and its outskirts.
Mahajan started the real estate business in the name of Mahajan Construction Company but not revealed the income of the company in his income tax returns," sources said, adding that to carry a comprehensive investigation of the properties owned by the businessman, simultaneous raids were conducted by the IT sleuths.
"It was being verified whether the businessman had reflected his proper income or fudged the details to conceal it.
The experts are on job to detect the Income Tax equivocation and are verifying the account books seized from all the premises," sources affirmed, adding that the IT experts assisting the survey team unearthed huge concealed income by the businessman and the experts were verifying all the transaction details.
It came into notice that the IT teams laid hands on the bank statements and accounts showing huge transactions of the concealed income.
"Several incriminate documents indicating concealment of Income Tax, record pertaining to the project under construction at Akhnoor road and costlier plots owned by the said businessman , bank accounts, pass books, lockers, jewellery, unaccounted wealth, Benami property, documents pertaining to sale and purchase of properties including plots and palatial Bungalows of the said businessman were discovered," sources claimed.
They added that on the spot questioning of the businessman, his family members and employees was carried out by the IT sleuths.
The Income Tax officials prepared the inventories of the seizures to scrutinize then further.
It was learnt that IT teams of Jammu was led by Additional Commissioner (Survey) Jammu Range -1 J R Kajla under the overall supervision of Commissioner of Income Tax Jammu while the teams from Ludhiana and Amritsar were supervised by DG IT Chandigarh Vineta Chopra.
The 'surveys' and 'searches' were in progress when reports last came in.
A senior IT officer when contacted, confirmed that IT 'surveys' and 'searches' were being carried out at seven business and one residential premises of a prominent businessman in Jammu and Udhampur district.
The details of the outcome of the 'surveys' and 'searches' are awaited, he added.
