ISLAMABAD, dec 7 (UNI) Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf has assured the newly-nominated chairman of the interim council of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai of all help and cooperation in fulfilling the task assigned to him by the United Nations.
In a telephonic conversation with Karzai last night, Gen Musharraf assured him of full support in all respects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction of the war-torn nation.
The president congratulated him on his new responsibilities and wished success to the council for the benefit of the Afghan people.
Reciprocating the sentiments of Goodwill, Karzai said the people of Afghanistan cherish the memories of help provided by Pakistan for the Afghan Jihad of yesteryears.
In a telephonic interview from Kandahar to a local Urdu daily, Karzai said Pakistan was their "Second home" and the government of Pakistan and its people never treated them as strangers.
Karzai said the Afghan refugees, currently in Pakistan, will return to their motherland as soon as the situation improves.
