New Bdesh PM sworn in

DHAKA, Oct 11 (Reuters) Begum Khaleda Zia was sworn in today as Bangladeshs new Prime Minister.

President Shahabuddin Ahmed administered the oath of office to Khaleda in a ceremony at the presidential palace.

Khaleda was swept to power in the October 1 General Election which outgoing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina alleged had been rigged.

Domestic and International monitors said the election, supervised by a non-party caretaker government as required by the countrys Constitution, had been largely free and fair, and they urged Hasina to accept the outcome.

Khaledas Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies won more than two-thirds of parliaments 300 seats against 62 by Hasinas Bangladesh Awami League.

Hasina has rejected the results and asked for a freshelection.
