No end to excesses in Kashmir: DFP

KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Democratic Freedom Party president Shabir Ahmad Shah today said that the security forces consider it a constitutional right to commit atrocities on the people.

Shah was addressing a gathering at Beerwah where a musque was damaged during an encounter.

He regretted that security forces did not exercise restraint leading to the loss to mosque.

The DFP president said the forces ransacked the houses around after the encounter ended and said several inmates were ruthlessly beaten.

"On one hand, New Delhi claims to make efforts to restore peace in sub-continent and on the other there is no end to excesses committed on people", he said.

Shah said it is not possible to have peace and war at a same time.

"They are giving the name of normalcy to the process of disturbing the situation", he said.

The DFP president said when claims are made to release detenues, Mohammad Qasim, a detenue was handed over an imprisonment verdict of 25 years.

He also expressed condolences with the family members of those killed in yesterday's encounter.

Jammu to host Children Film Festival JAMMU, Feb 1 (UNI) Jammu and its adjoining border towns will host a five-day Children Film Festival from February 7.

Children of the Jammu region will get an opportunity to see the best of children movies in theatres in Jammu city, R S Pura, Akhnoor and Samba.

Films for the purpose are being provided by the Children's Film Society, India and they include nationally and internationally acclaimed chilren's films like Baaja and Malli.

The aim of this festival is not only to entertain the children but also to educate and enlighten them about the different aspects connected with the growth and development of the children.

The tickets are low priced and will have a uniform rate of Rs 5 per ticket.
