KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 14: One person was killed and several others arrested during militancy related incidents and raids at some places.
Police today recovered a body from Kreeri, Pattan.
Reports said he was killed only last night and police was trying to establish his identity.
Protest demonstrations today rocked two localities here following the arrest of two youth.
Ghulam Rasool Boza of Qalamdanpora in old city was arrested by forces while Shabir Ahmad Shah of Maisuma was arrested from Amira Kadal.
People took to streets in these localities, demanding their release.
Despite assurances they were not released.
Tension gripped the Bandipore township after rumours hit the area that an IED has been planted.
Traffic remained suspended and shopkeepers left their shops.
Reports said a mysterious bag was found in the main market, triggering fears that it could be an IED.
Life immediately came to a standstill.
A bomb disposal squad was called in but latter a stone was recovered from the bag.
Reports from Shopian said a youth has gone missing.
Riyaz Ahmad Hajam of Pinjoora, Shopian left his home on Eid but did not return.
The family has lodged an FIR but nothing is known about his whereabouts.
A Congress activist was beaten by gunmen at Dooru, Anantnag.
Reports said gunmen barged into the house of Abdul Wahab Mir at Mehmoodabad and thrashed him.
The house was also ransacked but they did not open fire.
Cop suspended on extortion charges KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Police have suspended from service a selection grade constable on charges of extortion in Sogam, Kupwara.
Identified as Nazir Ahmad, he was posted in police station Sogam.
Following the reports that Ahmad was involved in extortion, superintendent of Police, Kupwara, Sunil Dutt laid a trap and suspended him.
Dutt has also ordered additional SP Kupwara to look into complaints of excesses and extortion in Sogam by cops.
He has been asked to present the report to him within days.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three thieves when they were trying to steal from a shop at Sopore.
They have been identified as Farooq Kana, Tariq Kana and M Maqbool, all residents of Sher-e-Kashmir colony Sopore.
A case has been booked against them.
Renegade held on murder charges KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Police today arrested a renegade militant who is said to be involved in number of murder cases in Kupwara.
Identified as Sarwar Gania, he was absconding since 1997 when police booked him for number of murder cases.
After a tip off a police party raided his hide out and arrested.
He has been booked under section 302 and 307 RPC.
