Orientation camp on iodine deficiencies

KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 17: In connection with the National Iodine Deficiency Disorders Control Programme (NIDCOP), the Srinagar and Chadoora units of directorate of field publicity, ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organized awareness-cum-orientation camps on "Importance of Iodized Salt" at village Makahama under Narbal block and Kandoora and Kheerigund villages in Budgam district respectively.

During the camps the speakers highlighted the importance of iodine content in the daily food intake essential for physical, mental and psychological development of pregnant women, adults, children and aged persons.

The lecture sessions were followed by interaction sessions.

The audience sought ban on the sale of open and non-iodized salt (Pahari Namak) particularly in far off rural areas.

The experts also demonstrated checking of the iodine content in packed salt.
