POTA court grants bail to Cong councillor in Godhra case

AHMEDABAD, Dec 2 (UNI) A special court today granted conditional bail to Congress councillor Salim Abdul Gaffar Sheikh, one of the prime accused in the Godhra case.

Special Prevention Of Terrorism Act court judge Sonia Gokani said that the bail plea of Salim was approved as prima-facie, police have no evidence to hold him under the anti-terrorism law.

The accused was arrested by the police in connection with Godhra carnage in April 2002, and since then he was under judicial custody.

He was charged with instigating the mob which set on fire bogies of Sabarmati Express killing 58 people.

Gujarat police had arrested about 90 persons, while more than 30 others accused were still absconding.

25 killed in bus accident in Himachal CHAMBA, Dec 2 (UNI) Twenty-five people were killed and 29 seriously injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus in which they were travelling plunged into the Ravi river at Chaurundoo Nala, near Gehra on the Chamba-Bharmour Highway, about 35 km from here, in this district this afternoon.

According to police reports, the ill-fated bus was carrying about 60 passengers and was on its way to Chamba from Bharmour.

About 25 bodies had been extricated and the work to identify them was on.

The driver of the bus, Subhash Chand, was seriously wounded, while the conductor, Kuldeep Chand, is yet to be traced.

On receiving the information about the accident, the Superintendent of Police, Chamba, Ajay Yadav, along with district authorities, including a team of doctors, rushed to the scene.

The accident occurred at about 1300 hrs.

The seriously injured were brought to the zonal hospital, Chamba, and some admitted to a nearby hospital at Dharwala and civil hospital, Bharmour, for treatment.
