NEW DEWLHI Mar 15 (UNI) US Secretary of State Colin Powell arrived here tonight amid tight security on the first leg of his South Asia tour that will also take him to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Powell, who is on his fourth visit to India since he took over, was received at the airport by US ambassador to India David C Mulford and senior Indian and American officials.
Powell, who visited India last in July 2002, will meet leader of the opposition Sonia Gandhi tomorrow morning before going into delegation-level talks with external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha.
He will also meet finance minister Jaswant Singh and national security adviser Brajesh Mishra and call on prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Powell leaves for Pakistans on Wednesday morning.
