KT NEWS SERVICE DODA, May 14, 2008: Residents of Beli area of Doda staged protest in the District Hospital here following death of a newly born baby due to alleged negligence of doctors.
Villagers shouted slogans against the hospital administration and demanded arrest of the doctor responsible for the death.
Gynecologist Dr Varsha, however, denied allegations and said that infant died due to some complicacy.
Protesting relatives and family members of the pregnant woman Rubina refuted these statements and said that she was brought to the hospital at 2 AM with labor pains and no doctor was available to attend her.
A Nurse and ANM on duty, they said gave a telephonic call to Dr Varsha but she did not come to the hospital.
The doctor came to the hospital at 9.30 AM and soon after the delivery, the newly born baby died.
Ghulam Nabi Mir- husband of Rubina of village Beli alleged she remained unattended for hours together in the hospital.
He said that despite giving a ring to Dr Varsha, she reached to the hospital at around 9.30 AM.
The doctor operated upon the pregnant woman and the baby failed to survive.
The relatives and the family members of the victim staged noisy protest demanding action against the erring doctor.
Ghulam Nabi Mir has lodged a written complaint against the doctor in Police Station Doda.
DC Doda Khursheed Ahmed Bhat directed In-charge Superintendent District hospital AW Bali to conduct a probe and take action against the doctor if found guilty.
Resentment brewed up among the locals over the repeated deaths of pregnant women and infants in the DH.
