Home Ministry, Chartered Accountants to discuss, analyse FCRA NEW DELHI, June 19 (UNI) At least Rs 5000 crore are sent to India each year from various sources all over the world under the ForeignContribution (Regulation) Act, 1976,(FCRA).
There are about 30,000 organisations registered under the FCRA in the country through which the money comes, official sources said today.
All such organisations registered and permitted to receive the funds under the FCRA, are required to submit annual returns indicating the amount of foreign currency received by them during the year and the source and the manner in which the contribution was used.
However, the sources said, there was no fool-proof system of keeping track of the entire money that comes into the country from various sources.
Some of the money could fall into wrong hands.
The Union Home Ministry will organise a two-day seminar on June 24--25 in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to "discuss and analyse and explore ways for regulating the huge amount of foreign funding that flows into India." The seminar will deliberate on issues including the FCRA and its application, relief and punishment under the Act, Money Laundering, Role of Enforcement Agencies in implementing the FCRA etc.
