KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, July 9: Syed Riyaz ul Hassan Geelani, Naib Sajdah Nasheen at the famous shrine of Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jeelani (Dastgeer Sahib), passed away after brief illness.
Hassan was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Khanyar.
He was the son in law of Masood ul Hassan, Sajdah Nasheen and nephew of Syed Abdul Wahib, retired IAS officer.
He was also a well known radio and TV artist.
A large number of people offered Nimaz-e-Jinaza and his death was widely condoled here.
People from different walks of life visited his house to offer condolences with the bereaved family.
HC quashes promotions of 2 Drug Control deptt officers KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, July 9: High Court has quashed the promotion orders of two senior officers in the Drug Control department issued some time back by the former Health minister Lal Singh in violation of the rules.
Lal Singh in an order 123 HME of 2004 dated February 12, 2004 promoted Nazir Ahmad Wani to the post of deputy directors, Drugs Kashmir and R L Das to the post of controller, Drugs and Food Organisation.
Subsequently, the two officers approached court through a writ petition SWP 343 / 2004 in the High Court to seek an interim relief in favour of promotion orders.
The order was challenged by Mushtaq Ahmad Khateeb, an officer in a writ petition SWP 382/2004.
The petition listed the shortcomings and said the promotion order is illegal.
Besides, it was pointed, that order was released on March 3 but was entered on a back date on February 12.
The court directed the health minister and the drug department to file affidavit and explain their position on the issue.
The respondents failed to respond.
Subsequently, Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakroo nullified the order and declared these posts vacant.
The department was also directed to prefer the deserving candidates.
Justice Kakroo observed the promotees lacked the requisite eligibility and held the order by the health minister clearly flouted all the rules and regulations.
The rules, he stated, requires five years experience for the post of deputy director and he observed that the officer was lacking the experiance.
HC notice to Thupstan KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, July 9: The state high court has issued a show cause notice to Thupstan Chewang, Member of Parliament from Ladakh, in connection with a writ petition filed by National Conference leader Ghulam Hassan Khan.
In the petition Khan has challenged the validity of Thupstan as the candidate on the grounds that the latter was holding the office of profit as chairman-CUM-chief councillor Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council during polls.
Khan had unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha polls.
Thupstan has been given four weekS time to file the objections in the court.
Khan alleged that the MP has received benefits equivalent to cabinet minister under the state government.
Ishaq Qadri, senior advocate appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
Javed Mir arrested KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, July 9 : Former Vice-Chairman of the JKLF Javed Ahmad Mir was arrested by the police near the civil secretariat here today while holding a protest demonstration against the human rights violations in the valley.
According to the reports, Mir along with his supporters started a procession from the Police Control Room (PCR) at Batmaloo and was heading towards the civil secretariat.
The protestors were raising slogans against the police and other security forces agencies.
They were demanding that the police officials involved in the torture of a 10th class girl student at Handwara be punished The protestors were raising slogans that there should be an end to the custodial disappearances, and custodial killings.
They were also demanding that the people lodged in different jails be released.
As soon as the protestors reached near the civil secretariat they were stopped by the police and were not allowed to proceed further.
On this occasion Mir along with the 10 others was arrested.
However, the former vice chairman of JKLF was later released in the evening.
