'...Rome burning ... Nero fiddling'

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 10: On the proverbial lines of 'fiddling Nero and burning Rome', when the 'existence' of main constituent of coalition Congress, faced with 'the most crucial hour', is at stake both in the state as well as outside, JKPCC president Ghulam Nabi Azad is conspicuous by his absence.

What is more baffling is the eerie silence adopted by JKPCC president on the issue of 'The Jammu and Kashmir Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Bill 2004' which has generated a commotion throughout the country.

After the state unit led by deputy chief minister made a faux pas by supporting the bill without even a whisper of dissent, even the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, joined by other Congress leaders, intervened as a 'damage control exercise'.

But not even a single statement emanated from Azad which really surprised political observers.

The sources, however, maintain that Azad is at present in New Delhi where he is not 'keeping well'.

This is yet antoher paradox that the wife of Azad, who has been appointed as the chairperson of State Women Commission by the coalition, too provided some embarrassing moments to the ruling dispensation in the current budget session in the upper house.

She has not joined her duty since her appointment and 'headless' commission is lying totally defunct.
