SC PC grants insurance to KP migrant

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 11 : Jammu and Kashmir State Consumer Protection Commission in a significant judgement has allowed 60 per cent of the insured amount of Rs.

5 lakh alongwith 7 per cent interest and litigation charges of Rs.

2000 in a case of Poshker Nath, a migrant of Kupwara, presently residing in Purkho Camp.

The case was hotly contested by the defendant oriental insurance company limited on the plea that the complainant had lodged a fake complaint as made out by investigators.

Kawoosa and Member, Khalid Hussain while rejecting the plea of the respondent placed reliance on the investigations conducted by police and said that when a company renews subsequent policies, it is implied that the company satisfies itself about the existence of the properties in question.

The delay in filing of the FIR was also rejected by the commission as the complainant w a s a migrant who had no satellite arrangement to know about the damages caused to his house in Lolab, observed Kawoosa.
