KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Mar 2 : The Central team, currently in the state to assess the loss of life and property in the valley due to recent snowfall and avalanches, at the instance of Prime Minister, held deliberations with divisional administration here yesterday.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, who accompanied the team during its visit to various affected places, briefed about the damages caused by the heavy snow fall and measures being taken to rehabilitate the affected and restore basic infrastructure as also to compensate loss of life and property in the snow ravaged areas.
Giving details about the loss of life and basic infrastructure, the Divisional Commissioner said that almost all the districts of the valley have more or less been affected by the devastating snow, the worst hit being the south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
He said nearly 20 lakh population of the valley got severely hit.
As many as 194 civilians lost their lives, 133 got injured and 39 persons are still missing in the avalanches hit areas.
An estimated number of 5000 residential and non-residential houses got damaged.
He informed that damage caused to roads is estimated at Rs.
70 crore followed by irrigation and flood control at Rs.
25.72 crore and power system at Rs.
Similarly, agriculture and allied sectors have suffered tremendous damage due to snowfall.
Khurshid apprised that an ex-gratia relief of Rs.
1.10 crore has been distributed among the sufferers in the valley so far.
The meeting, among others was attended by all Deputy Commissioners of valley and various head of departments.
