Siddarth beats Prateek, enters Jr Nationals tennis final

CHENNAI, Aug 26 (UNI) Continuing his fine run, 16th seed Siddarth Alapatti of Andhra Pradesh upset seventh seed Prateek Shanta Raju of Karnataka to enter the boys singles Under-18 final of the Adidas-MCC Junior National Tennis championship here today.

Siddarth faced little resistance on his way to a 6-2, 7-6(7-4) win to meet his statement Myneni Saketh Sai in the final tomorrow.

Myneni defeated Mohd Fariz of Tamil Nadu 6-3, 7-5.

In the girls Under-18 semifinals, top seed Madura Ranganathan of Tamil Nadu breezed past fourth seed Asha Nandakumar of Karnataka 6-2, 6-1 to meet third seed G K Swetha of Karnataka in the finals.

Swetha defeated Gayatri Krishnan of Tamil Nadu 7-6(7-2), 7-6(8-6).

Results : Semifinals: Boy's singles Under-18: Siddarth Alapatti (AP) bt Prateek Shanta Raju (Kar) 6-2, 7-6(4); Myneni Saketh Sai (AP) bt Mohd Fariz (TN) 6-3, 7-5.

Girls singles Under-18: Madura Ranganathan (TN) bt Asha Nandakumar (Kar) 6-2, 6-1; G K Swetha (Kar) bt Gayathri Krishnan (TN) 7-6(2), 7-6(6).
