NANDIGRAM, May 22 (Agencies): Sixteen people were injured in bomb explosions and clashes between CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress supporters with counting for the panchayat polls in progress here since last night.
Attacks and counter-attacks were reported from many areas, including Bhangabera, Gokulnagar, Dandpur, Balarampur and Dekutia villages, police said.
While Trinamool Congress leader and MLA Sisir Adhikari, alleged that CPI(M) supporters attacked and injured 12 Trinamool supporters immediately after the poll debacle by the marxists, CPI(M) East Midnapore district member Ashok Guria claimed that three of its cadre were injured in TC attack.
According to Guria, he was not to be blamed for his party's poll disaster.
"Our party is responsible for this." Both the leaders alleged that several houses were ransacked and party workers assaulted in the incidents.
Police said one person, identified as a Trinamool worker, was injured in a bomb blast near Sonachura and rushed to hospital.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) supporters allegedly blocked different roads with logs and disrupted traffic movement at Sutarmore, Jadubani and other areas in Nandigram.
Adhikari alleged that Trinamool gram panchayat candidate Sohaim Kazi's residence was ransacked by CPI(M) cadre at Garchakraberia.
The CRPF were patrolling the main roads, but police were not to be found.
