RANCHI, Feb 17 (UNI): With a few days remaining for the 'make-or-break' third phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, political parties are gearing up to unleash a galaxy of stars in the state.
Polling would be held in 28 constituencies on February 23, out of which 18 are in the tribal-dominated Santhal Pargana region while the remaining 10 are almost equally divided between Dhanbad (six) constituencies and Bokaro (four).
Performing well in the Santhal Parganas is important for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which held nine seats from the area out of its total strength of 11 in the dissolved house and needs to better its tally.
Party supremo Shibu Soren, who canvassed for party candidates in Hazaribagh district yesterday, is now expected to campaign extensively in the region.
The Congress has also stepped up its activities and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to campaign for party candidates.
While Dr Singh would come to the state tomorrow and is expected to address election rallies in Bokaro and Dhanbad, the Congress president is supposed to speak in Rajmahal and Bermo.
On its part, the BJP would be bringing in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Sunday, though his exact itenary is not known yet.
