NEW DELHI, Nov 5 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said it would take "a couple of chapters or a booK" to explain her renunciation of the post of Prime Minister six months ago.
"I have to write a couple of chapters or a book.
You have to wait for that book," she said when asked if she could explain her renunciation of power during the formation of the new government.
During a question-answer session at the 'Hindustan Times Leadership Initiative' conference here, Gandhi said she had always thought "right from the beginning" that she would not occupy the chair of Prime Minister.
"My aim was only to strengthen the Congress party and in doing so my plan was to deafeat the anti-secular forces," she said.
The next question was, Do you agree that you are the power behind the throne? "I was elected to occupy that chair of power," she replied referring to her election as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Lok Sabha after the elections.
"Why should there be a power behind that throne?" Asked why there was "wavering" on her part on Prime Ministership for the first two days after she was elected CLP leader, she said she was clear in head that she would not become the Prime Minister.
"But flesh will sometimes weaken that thought," she added.
In a lighter vein, she said such stories were not there nor any complaints when her husband Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister.
"There was no story or any complaint then that I was the power behind the throne."
