Sonia urged for ST status to Paharis

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Dec 9: State general secretary of Pahari Employees Association Shakeel Azad today met with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and reiterated their demand of ST status to Pahari people of Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Karnah, Keran and Tangdar.

He said that the file was lying pending in the Prime Minister's office from last many months and people are feeling anxiousbecause of the extraordinary delay.

As per release, the Congress chief assured that their demand would be considered soon.

NCMRWF role highlighted Agro Advisory Services review meet at AAU KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Dec 9: The 14th Annual Review Meeting of Agro Advisory Services of National Centre of Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) was held in the first week this month, at Assam Agriculture University at Jorhat in which the delegates from Department of Sciences and Technology, Indian Council of Agriculture Research and scientist from various Agriculture universities including the Agrometeorologist from SKUAST-Jammu participated.

In the meeting the role of NCMRWF was highlighted and it was stated that during the year 2005, the onset of monsoon in different places over India was delayed by 4-15 days.

Stress was laid upon to focus the future research programme on the basis of the impact of global climatic change on agriculture and allied industries.

As far as the performance of each centre is concerned, the DST sponsored Arometeorological Field Unit (AMFU) of SK university of Agricultural Sciences & Technology Jammu has been rated at number five position in a total of 107 units located in the country.

The performance of AMFU unit of SKUAS-J under the guidance of Prof.

Nagendra Sharma, Vice Chancellor in making the university among leading Institutes in India and making the Agro advisory meaningful for the benefit of farmers of the region was appreciated.
