KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 4: The House Committee on Public Undertakings has directed the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation to improve its performance and bring more transparency in its functioning.
The PUC met here with Peer Mohammad Hussain, MLA in chair and discussed the Comptroller and Auditor General's Audit Report and over all functioning of the corporation.
The Committee deliberated on various issues relating to the working of the corporation and suggested various measures for its further improvement.
While discussing a query of the CAG's report regarding embezzlement of Rs.
8.70 lakh by the cashier of the corporation, the Committee expressed concern over this grave lapse and said that the corporation should have taken appropriate steps to recover the money from the defaulter.
However, the Committee directed the Commissioner/Secretary, Transport, Pramodh Jain to get the matter enquired into afresh and furnish a detailed report on this before the next meeting.
The committee opined that such lapse cannot go unnoticed for a long period and suspected the convenience of other employee also.
The committee further directed the corporation to pay the General Provident Fund arrears of those employees whose money has been embezzled by the cashier.
The innocent employees should not suffer.
The Committee also asked the corporation to devise a foolproof mechanism to avoid local purchases, adding, the codal procedure tender procedure should be adopted always.
The Committee also sought a list of fleet of vehicles with modles existing with the corporation indicating the number of road worthy and off the road vehicles.
