Sukhwinder's fate to be decided on Sep 6: Colaco

KOLKATA, Aug 26 (UNI): All India Football Federation (AIFF) Secretary Alberto Colaco today said any decision regarding the fate of national soccer coach Sukhwinder Singh will be taken in the Working Committee meeting on September 6.

Talking to reporters here, Colaco said, "No decision has been taken on the future of Sukhwinder Singh.

The matter had not come up for discussion in the Technical Committee meeting." "It will be decided in September 6 Executive Committee meeting," he said.

The axe looms over the head of Sukhwinder following the Indian team's dismal performance in Pakistan and Fiji.

Regarding a decision on Goan footballer John Dias, who did a disappearing act from Kolkata after practising with East Bengal for a month and later claiming that the signature on the city club's contract was fake, Colaco said, "A decision on him will be taken in the disciplinary committee of the AIFF in New Delhi.

Whatever it is, the decision will come by September 20." He also said that a meeting will be held with the clubs to see that players were released for national duty on time.

He was referring to East Bengal's delay in releasing the players for the national camp.

Women's football has scope for development: FIFA KOLKATA, Aug 26 (UNI): FIFA Assistant Development Officer Mohsin Gillani today said women's football in India could surge ahead with proper planning and infrastructure.

Talking to reporters at the end of day's stopover in the city where he inspected the infrastructure of women's football and met the coaches and administrators, Gillani said, "This is the only time that I've got some first hand knowledge about women's football and I must say its very encouraging." "It's better than many other countries.

It has the scope to develop further with proper infrastructure and planning," he added.

"There is need for proper trainning of referees, coaches and administrators.

This could give women's football a new direction," Gillani, who made the earlier stopover at Delhi, said.

He also disclosed that every year FIFA gave 2.5 lakh dollar to AIFF for development of football in the country, of which 10 per cent were earmarked for women's football.

Gillani, who is in-charge of development of soccer in the subcontinent, is based in Colombo and has come to India with the specific purpose of development of women's football here.

AIFF Secretary Alberto Colaco, who was also present, said, "We spend one lakh dollar every year on women's football and expect more cooperation from FIFA.

It may not be in cash, but could come in the form of coach, referee and administrative training."
